July 2000 . . .

Hello all,

Sorry my update has been delayed but basically all I am doing is WAITING, waiting, waiting and more WAITING, WAITING and then even more WAITING and I really do not know why there are delays, really. I have been waiting 218 days from when I sent in my paper work to China, and 13 months from when I began this process. I am feeling slightly annoyed with waiting, yet I am not agitated, so that is good.

Top 10 Reasons for a Wait:

10. Allows more time for me to worry about everything resulting in looney, obsessive, irrational behavior.

9. Simplifies hair maintenance as there is less hair, since most of it has been ripped out.
8. Allows time for more things to be repeatedly put on and then off of my packing list and travel tidbits (i.e. Packer schizophrenia)
7. Keeps relatives/friends who are going to travel with you and help you in a confused state over their schedule. Keeps your schedule simple: "Can't plan anything for the next 9 months, because I heard I MIGHT be going to China this year!"
6. Allows time for more people to ask, "So have you heard anything?"
5. Results in more time to get the quilt done, read the baby books that I have not yet even started. Finish baby's room.
4. Allows me more time to do everything again, for the last time.
3. Allows me more time to save more money(or in my case spend more money on myself and my apartment).
2. Allows me more time to contemplate if I really am insane.
1. Allows you and your travel group more time to practice the correct way to use a squat toilet without losing your balance!

I am still unable to sit still for any length of time and I am continually busy with new projects that I find for myself.

I had someone credit me with their starting the adoption process, which was very nice to hear. By my telling someone I work with about my adoption, talking about it with him, answering all of his numerous questions, never knowing why he was so interested, it opened the door to an informed discussion between him and his wife and gave them the push they needed to set things in motion for their own adoption.

Harry and I are out of deep training we are now just in training. He is making some progress, basically when he feels like it. Though I have tried many times as some of you saw at the party he will just not give up his position as my bodyguard.

I went to a travel prep class. (It was scheduled awhile ago because we should have been packing our bags to go about now.) I found it overwhelming, yet informative. It was run by Dr. Jane Aronson who is a leading specialist in babies that are adopted from foreign countries. She explained all the health factors, what to look for, showed pictures, explained in detail how to treat things and gave many prescriptions to take to China. She would not put on the air conditioner in her apartment and it was so hot with us all in the room and her talking about one horrible, sad tragic medical condition to the next it was hard to focus sometimes. I am glad she gave out onesheeters too.

I am still waging the battle to get the two weeks compensation from my employer. I met again with my Human Resource Director a few weeks ago to again plead my case. Every two weeks or so I send links and information about adoption and why it should be treated as equally as a birth. Also when I frequently see the HR Director in the bathroom I follow up with her then too. (this poor woman is probably developing bladder problems because she is afraid to pee because I might be lurking in the bathroom to harass her.) I am hoping that she will just have had enough and give me
my two weeks!!!

Don't forget to visit Zoey's Website -- pictures of the shower and other tidbits should be posted soon.  Take a look-see at http://www.raegraphics.com/lahaza

Until next month......
Lisa
